FTP is an acronym for File Transfer Protocol – en extremely popular way to send files between a home PC and a server. With an FTP client program such as FileZilla or CuteFTP, you can connect to the server and view its content in one pane, whereas the files on your PC will be shown in another pane within the program window. All you have to do to send files or entire folders in either direction is to mark them and then to drag them from one pane to the other. FTP is used by numerous users because you can create different FTP accounts and each of them can be restricted to access just one folder on the server, so a web designer, for instance, can do their task without accessing any other folder in your hosting account. Plus, the presence of different FTP accounts will also allow you to create multiple sites with web design applications like FrontPage or Dreamweaver and to upload them to their corresponding directories on the server.
